About Us

The WDSI was founded in October 2003 after the success of the 2nd WDSC at Zoetermeer, Netherlands.

In principle, the objects for the WDSI are: -

  • To develop opportunities for deaf people to participate into a game of squash, including participation, coaching, officials and spectators.
  • To co-ordinate WDSC (World Deaf Squash Championships), with support from both Deaflympic and WSF.
  • To support Deaf Squash nations with their national development and needs.

To date WDSI have 6 national members which are Australia, England, Netherlands, Pakistan, Scotland and South Africa. There are individuals from other countries such as Canada, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand and USA.

The WDSI, as a world deaf sport organization, is overseen by three Directors:-

  • Technical Director, the founder of WDSI;
  • Finance Director (Angus McDonald - NZ)
  • Media and Public Relations Director (Claire Sternberg - SA)
  • Championship Director (Brian Rawlinson - UK / Andre le Roux - SA)
  • Championship Manager (Simon Jones - UK)

At this stage, the WDSI is not affiliated to either World Squash Federation (WSF) or International Committee Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) but they are working on getting affiliation.

For more information about the WDSI, please contact WDSI Committees or Media and Public Relations Director.
